• Hey! I saw the video the first time 10 years ago, but unfortunately decided to delete the file from my comp a few months later. Finally I got it back. Thanks for that. By the way: From my point of view it is not REALLY sure that the whale was dead already when being blown up. At least, if you define life as something producing smell (a good definition), there was pretty much life in it, wasn´t it?

• This is like a James Herriot story for Engineers. I say that as a fully qualified mechanical engineer doing a PhD at a Vet School. 🙂 I can understand people being offended by this, but seriously, it’s worth a laugh because it’s so completely ridiculous! • One of the most beautiful bit of reporting I have ever seen in my life. It makes the event that much more special. Expecting crabs and seagulls to clean up the leftovers was a particularly funny concept. Thats wanting them to do the workloads of hyenas & vultures of the Serengeti. I’m guessing the whole local population of gulls was wiped out in the blast. Any surviving gulls would never return. Too terrified. Funny man. Funny…. And educational too. Like the reporter said “…We now know what not to do”.

• Some of the responses left previously are proof-positive that there is just WAY too much caffeine consumption going on in our world. Get a grip and grow a sense of humor, folks! For all you well-meaning but sappily-brainwashed people “protesting” this silliness as anti-whale, you might remember this all happened way back in 1970…the year I turned 21 years old in Viet Nam. And the whale was ALREADY dead from other causes. While blowing it up was certainly a goofy (and VERY funny!) notion of how to dispose of a large dead animal, I find no sign that anyone involved meant any malice to whales. They may have been guilty of being kinda’ stupid…but certainly not evil. Personally, I recommend the Oregon Highway Department be dispatched to take care of the remaining Al Qaeda. That would be a better use of their skills than disassembling dead whales.
